"My bachelor’s degree was in law, but I then worked for over 15 years in a shopping mall marketing role before I applied for my master’s course. This course taught me to consider and analyse marketing issues in systematic ways instead of purely depending on experience. For example, PESTEL Analysis helped me see the whole picture of the commercial environment, and SMART objectives helped me make targets clear and concise. These theories were helpful to both my assessments and my day-to-day work now.
As this course included assessments based on case studies, I had opportunities to analyse, evaluate, and deeply understand brands like Hermes, LV, Prada. My knowledge has helped brand representatives to trust and respect me, as they can see that I understand their brand and can provide real, applicable, and valuable suggestions.
You will find the teachers here kind and helpful. The lecturers listened to our thoughts and feedback and were always willing to answer questions and take suggestions on board. You will discover so many things about Manchester and about yourself when you get here! It’s never too late to study; I started the course at 39 years old and graduated at 40 years old. Continuous learning is an important way to stay competitive.
I’m now based in Shanghai as the Head of Marketing for a high-end shopping mall with over 140 years of history. We invited luxury brands such as LV, Dior, Vacheron Constantin to this historical building, as the heritage architecture provides different spaces from their traditional boutiques. My scope of work includes marketing position identification, branding, and budgeting, events, and more."
