WHAT WE DO...
“If you're looking for a diverse degree that has a direct and long-lasting impact on shaping the world, look no further than Materials Science and Engineering at Manchester!
Materials science is a synthesis of physics, chemistry, biology and engineering. It is the building block on which modern industry has and will continue to advance.
Our students learn about a wide range of materials including, metals, alloys, nanomaterials, polymers, ceramics, semiconductors, biomaterials and composites. You will learn about their structure and properties and identify new and interesting applications."

HERE TO GUIDE YOU: OUR STUDENTS

Nobody knows what it feels like to scope out subjects and universities as well as those who stood in your shoes just a short time ago.

So, we sat down with our students and asked them to anonymously share their course experiences, insight, and honest words of wisdom. You'll find their advice throughout this brochure.

Enjoy exploring Materials Science at The University of Manchester. We hope to see you at our next Open Day!

"It's not purely science, and not just engineering. Materials science is a combination of physics and chemistry and then putting them into action to solve problems. The subject is a great combination of both science AND engineering."
"Materials impact everything really! We need top performing materials to help technological advances... Things like batteries, jet engines, plastic recycling, biomedical devices and much more!"

We understand every stage of your journey - from discovering the right subject, to waiting for your A-Level Results!
