FIVE SIGNS COMPUTER SCIENCE IS FOR YOU

Ask any of our academics and they will tell you it's not so much what you know, it's about the way you think - and this often surprises our students to-be!
Computer Science is the right fit for you if...

1. YOU LOVE PROBLEM SOLVING

If you're the kind of person who likes to know how things work, and crucially, how you can make things work smarter - computer science could be the perfect fit.

2. YOU PUSH BOUNDARIES

You don’t just use technology you question it. How does it work? How could it work better?

As a Computer Science student, you might prototype ten versions before one finally clicks. You’ll debug for hours over a tiny error. You’ll build something that fails… and then build it again, better.

Because pushing boundaries isn’t about getting it right first time. It’s about refusing to settle for “good enough”.

3. YOU WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The world not only needs computer scientists, but our university has pioneered the industry. From Alan Turing inventing the modern computer, to Professor Steve Furber helping create the chip in your phone.

What boundaries would you like to break?

4. YOU WANT TO OPEN DOORS

Being research-led, everything you learn at Manchester is at the cutting-edge of the sector - from machine learning to software engineering.

Most recently, we've made significant investments in a big variety of areas, from AI to low-energy computing!

5. YOU WANT A COMMUNITY

Computer Science at Manchester is known for its friendly community and exciting student scene.

As term begins, students make friends not only through labs and group projects, but societies - which help you connect through common interests.
