Biochemical Preparations Facility

The Biochemical Preparation Facility provides specialist support for preparing, growing and purifying biological samples – helping researchers move quickly from culture to high-quality material for downstream experiments.

Alongside access to core equipment, our team provides practical guidance and hands-on support for microbiology and biochemical sample preparation, including training to help users work safely and confidently.

Working with us

Led by Dr Derren Heyes and a team of four senior technical specialists, the Biochemical Preparation Facility provides access to comprehensive suite of microbiology and biochemical preparation equipment.

Our key strength is our team of highly skilled senior technicians, who bring deep experience in microbiology and biochemical sample preparation. Whether you need training, troubleshooting or ongoing project support, we work with researchers and external partners to ensure safe, efficient and reproducible experiments.

Our impact

Our projects support the MIB’s research missions by accelerating technology development, biomanufacturing routes to sustainable chemicals and materials, platforms for advanced therapeutics, and biological solutions for environmental protection. Working with MIB’s cross-disciplinary teams, we provide collaborative access, training and clear handover so partners can adopt, sustain and grow capability.
