Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre
We do something that isn’t replicated anywhere else in UK academia.
At the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) we accelerate lab to market development, enabling companies to fast track Technology Readiness Levels and launch new technologies, products and processes that exploit the truly remarkable properties of graphene and other 2D materials.
This means we commercialise innovation, helping more than 300 companies to date – from large corporations to start-ups and SMEs – secure the competitive edge they need to achieve their economic potential.
The GEIC’s world-class facilities and resources – housed in the Masdar Building – are supported by experienced and knowledgeable applications engineers and internationally renowned academics, working across a very broad range of novel technologies and applications. It’s closely linked to its sister facility, the National Graphene Institute, which brings a pipeline of technology and academic support.
Specialising in the rapid development and scale-up of graphene and other 2D materials applications, the GEIC focuses on the seven application areas of composites; energy; membranes; inks, formulations and coatings; graphene production; construction materials; and measurements and characterisation.
Through its advanced facilities, the GEIC enables companies to design, develop, scale and ‘de-risk’ the next generation of innovative products and processes –with a dedicated application manager on hand to oversee the entire project.
Our impact
The GEIC plays a unique role in advancing future technologies and applications and in boosting our region’s economy, by helping grow our advanced material industry, creating a supply chain which creates value and jobs.
