1. YOU'RE NOT AFRAID OF A CHALLENGE
Whilst Physics isn't the terrifying topic it's often made out to be, it's indeed a lot of work. You'll be fully immersed in the subject as you develop a solid foundation in classical Physics, while introducing newer ideas such as the unification of space and time, and the meaning of wave-particle duality. Sound exciting? If so, you're off to a great start!
2. YOU WANT TO OPEN DOORS
As joint first in the UK for our world-leading research, everything you learn at Manchester is at the cutting-edge of the field. Our Department of Physics and Astronomy is jam-packed with experts in the field and has connections to organisations all over the world. Plus, with a huge range of modules to choose from, no matter where your passions lie, you'll be able to explore them at Manchester.
3. MATHS IS NOT YOUR ENEMY
Whilst you don't have to love maths to be a great physicist, there is still a lot of mathematics involved in the field. If the thought of lots of formulas and equations makes you feel queasy, you may encounter some problems throughout a Physics degree.
4. YOU'RE CAREER DRIVEN (OR NOT!)
If employability is important to you, you're in luck! The University of Manchester is the number-one most targeted university by the UK's Top Graduate Employers (THE Graduate Market, 2023).
That said, Manchester is the perfect place to explore your passions and learn more about possible career options, so don't worry if you aren't sure what you would like to do with your degree yet.
5. YOU LOVE PHYSICS
It sounds simple, but it's really the only factor that matters. You'll spend at least three years studying for your degree, completely immersing yourself in the topic. So, make sure you're choosing a subject you love!

“People think physics is very difficult and stay away from it, while it's actually very intuitive and interesting to study.”

"Physicists can be cool as well, it's not always nerdy!”
